What’s up everyone? Its your budtender Cory, back with some more material for you. Today I will be discussing some of the concentrates that are available at Budders Cannabis, located at 3466 Dundas Street West in Toronto. Please keep in mind this list of cannabis concentrates is in no specific order. These are simply some of my personal and professional opinions on just a few popular concentrates available to date. In case you are new to cannabis concentrates or your curious about trying them, don’t sweat it! There are many different kinds and a variety of methods to consume each one. But before we dive into all that, lets start with the basics on what concentrates are.
Cannabis Concentrates - What are they?
Concentrates are products made from the cannabis plant that have been processed or extracted to maintain only the good stuff! This consists of THC, terpenes, and other cannabinoids. The process removes plant matter and other impurities so that you are left with the most desired part of the plant. Gram for gram, cannabis concentrates contain a greater number of cannabinoids and terpenes compared to just the cannabis plant. They also have a remarkably high bioavailability, meaning the effects you feel and experience as well as the absorption into your body happens almost right away. Keep in mind, concentrates last anywhere from 1 to 3 hours, which may be longer than the effects of a joint or bowl. Speaking of a joint, concentrates are often used to increase the strength or potency of regular flower. However, they can also be consumed on their own. They come in a wide variety of textures and can be consumed using many different methods. The look and feel of concentrates do not always indicate the level of potency, flavour, or effect. These are just aesthetics that can help you keep track of your personal favourites or preferences. Hopefully, this will help everyone understand concentrates a little more.
A List of Legal Cannabis Concentrates Available in the Recreational Cannabis Market
Fireside X – Glueberry Shatter - 68.7% THC
Probably one of my personal favourite concentrates is the Glueberry Shatter from Fireside X. The strain Glueberry is a cross between OG Kush, Blueberry, and Gorilla Glue. In my opinion, you get amazing flavour from the Blueberry and you get potency and smoothness from the OG Kush. To top it all off, you get a hard hitting, strong effect from the Gorilla Glue. This shatter concentrate is also full spectrum. This means during the extraction process, they made sure to maintain all the extra cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes. During the process they also use a method called ‘winterization’ in which the product reaches temperatures of -75 degrees Celsius. This ensures that all fats and residual impurities are removed. What you are left with is a clean, extremely high quality, smooth, and flavourful concentrate that is pack full of terpenes and cannabinoids. Shatter is commonly enjoyed out of a dab rig, because it is the best method for flavour, and smoothness, which is especially important when it comes to shatter. However, I also enjoy using YoCan dab pens. They are easy to use, portable, and much more discrete. I personally find that shatter is something best enjoyed as a treat or on special occasions. At the end of a long week, Fireside X’s Glueberry Shatter is just the right thing to start off a relaxing weekend. Keep in mind, because of the high levels of THC, shatter has the potential to greatly increase your tolerance to cannabis. Canna Farms – BC Bubble Hash – 42.6% THC
Let me start by saying there are many kinds of hash, each with their own texture, taste, and effect. There are also many ways to make hash. Canna Farm’s BC Bubble Hash is an all natural, solvent-less concentrate that is made by removing the trichomes from the cannabis plant using ice water and different levels of filters. The trichomes are then collected and pressed together to make Bubble Hash. What I really like about this process is how it preserves the natural terpenes of the plant, which is responsible for how the hash tastes and how it makes you feel. Bubble Hash has very minimal residual chlorophyll and lipids from the plant which also makes smoking or vaping it much smoother. They also freeze dry bubble hash, instead of using conventional heat. This too helps maintain those terpenes and keep all the cannabinoids intact. It has a golden, light brown colour, and has a crumbly, powder like consistency which makes it easy to use in a variety of ways. I find a lot of consumers use bubble hash to kick their weed up a notch. It is easily my favourite product for sprinkling on a joint or adding a little kick to a bong hit or pipe.
San Rafael ’71 – OG Chemdawg Live Resin – 68.6% THC
Out of all different kinds on concentrates, live resin is easily one of my personal preferences. In my professional opinion it also seems to be a favourite for many other connoisseurs. One of the main reasons I am such a big fan of live resin is because of how well the flavour and terpenes are preserved. It is created by flash freezing freshly harvested cannabis. This allows the resin glands to be extracted before they have a chance to dry or cure. San Rafael’s OG Chemdawg Live Resin must be one of the most popular on the market! Visually, it was very appealing. Resembling almost wet sugar with a bright, golden, yellowish, orange colour. To me the aroma smelt like honey and fresh fruits. When hit out of my quartz glass banger, it burned extremely clean and was full of flavour! I experienced flavours of citrus, mango, and pine. I also really enjoyed using my Yocan Magneto with a quartz dual coil. It still allowed for tons of flavour but made it easier to enjoy it smaller puffs. For anyone looking to try a new concentrate, this would be the one in my opinion! If you want to ask questions about how to use live resin, visit our cannabis store located at 3466 Dundas St W in Toronto.
48North – Traditional Pressed Hash – 41.3% THC
Considering the many different types of hash that are now available, 48North’s traditional pressed hash is probably the most sought after. Nearly all the experienced hash connoisseurs seem to choose this product. 48North creates this hash by hand using pure kief, from their most high-quality flower. Its main terpenes include myrcene and pinene. I noticed hints of ripe fruit, and basil. It also has a strong earthy/herbal taste. This kind of hash is awesome for enjoying in different ways. It can be smoked using a hash pipe, or if your looking for some fun and excitement, you can always try the old school method of hot knives or bots. Taking a small piece of hash and placing it on the end of a burning cigarette, then placing the tip of the cigarette in a water bottle to allow the hash smoke to accumulate. I personally enjoyed using my Storz & Bickel, Mighty vaporizer. It allowed me to get the best and most flavour out of the hash, all while still providing that unique hash feeling. Its my profession opinion that people who enjoy hash state how the affects are different from cannabis flower. If you are new to hash, and are looking to try some, or if you are an experienced hash consumer this is the hash for you.
